ST. LOUIS - With, many families are planning a trip to the great outdoors. According to the American Camping Association, more than 10MM youths will attend a summer camp, while millions of other families will venture into National or State Parks for their summer vacation.
However, even these simple outdoor getaways are not without complications. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently reported that Lyme disease has climbed to its highest level on record in the United States, and West Nile virus has begun to surface in the western states. To avoid insect borne-illnesses, the CDC recommends taking special precautions to avoid insect borne-diseases when spending any time outdoors.
"The threat of contracting the West Nile virus or Lyme disease shouldn't stop anyone from enjoying the outdoors," said Angela Proctor, Repel product manager. "As packing lists are made, consumers should take the appropriate steps to protect themselves and their outdoor areas from ticks, mosquitoes and other biting insects."
The first layer of protection should be applied to campsites or picnic areas. Spraying Repel Camp Fogger around the campsite - in the air and on the ground before setting up campsites - produces a barrier that keeps flying and crawling insects away. Repel Camp Fogger can be taken anywhere extra protection would be needed, such as local or national parks.
The second layer of bug proofing takes place on clothing and gear. With a Permethrin-based repellent like Repel Permanone®, the formula binds to fabric and kills ticks, mosquitoes and other biting insects that come in contact with the treated material. It is ideal for use on clothing, socks, hats, boots, shoes, tents and sleeping bags. This protection can last for two weeks, making it especially convenient for extended camping trips.
Finally, but most importantly, the skin needs to be protected. The most effective way to avoid mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies, chiggers and other biting insects is to apply a long-lasting, DEET-based insect repellent to the skin. The new Repel Sportsman MAX FormulaT formula offers 40% DEET, the highest concentration available in an aerosol. This formula was developed especially for campers, backpackers, fishermen, hunters and other active outdoors men and women and lasts up to 10 hours.
